Key facts:
-
It will go live on June 11, developers reported.
-
It will improve two important aspects related to the security of the BNB Chain.
The BNB Chain network (formerly Binance Smart Chain) will have a major update on June 12. It is called Luban, and it will include three improvement proposals, BEP-126, BEP-174 and BEP-221.
Precisely, Luban will be activated in block 29.020.050. This is expected to be reached on the evening of June 11 or in the early hours of June 12 (UTC time). All BNB Chain node validators and operators must be updated to this version, v.1.2.4, before then, the developers have reported.
Details on the Luban Update on BNB Chain
As described by the BNB Chain update repository on Github, BEP-126 introduces “fast completion” mechanism for network blocks. Thus, it prevents them from being modified after completion, which improves their security and reduces the chances of suffering specific attacks from chains that work with proof of stake or proof of stake.
“Currently, on the BNB smart chain, all full nodes and validators have to wait until enough blocks have been produced to warrant probabilistic finality. In the case of BSC, with 21 validators, full nodes and validators can expect 2/3*21=14 blocks to ensure relatively secure finality,” the proposal explains.
On the other hand, the BEP-174 aims to correct one of the great problems of DeFi protocols in recent times, the bridges between networks. To do this, it introduces “cross-chain relay management”.
Relays or repeaters are “on-chain messengers” that help transfer tokens between different blockchains via bridges. “These repeaters are typically whitelisted entities that currently must be added manually in a complex process,” the proposal explains.
With BEP-174, “managers for repeaters, selected by network governance” will be introduced. These managers are the ones that will manage the registration of the individual repeaters; in this way, it will be “easy to remove or add any repeater in a possible moment of crisis”.
Finally, the BEP-221 improves the compatibility between networks of the BNB ecosystem and CometBTF, the application platform of the Cosmos network. This improvement proposal is mainly oriented to BNB Greenfield, a network aimed at developers with a main focus on decentralized data storage, as reported in CriptoNoticias.
