Key facts:
-
The Antminer Z15 Pro has higher efficiency than the previous model.
-
The network hashrate dropped to 8 GS/s, almost 20% less than the previous average.
The Antminer Z15 Pro is finally hitting Bitmain’s digital shelves, at least 5 months later than expected. This Zcash mining equipment is twice as powerful as its predecessor.
He Antminer Z15 Pro offers 840 Ksol/s hashrate, and has a power consumption of 2,650 watts and an efficiency of 3.15 J/KSol. According to advertisement from Bitmain, the manufacturer of mining equipment for Bitcoin and other networks, the price of the equipment will be known on May 26. The pre-sale date will be between May 26 and June 1, for those who participate in a company contest (although the sale will be limited to 30 teams per person). From that date the sale to the rest of the public will begin. The distribution date has not been announced.
The computer is an ASIC (integrated circuit) model that uses fan cooling. It processes the equihash algorithm, which is not limited to a single cryptocurrency. Among the mining protocols that can be mined with this algorithm are Zcash, Zencash, Komodo, Zclassic, Hush and others.
Zcash mining after the halving
In November 2022, Zcash experienced its first halving, which reduced miner reward from 12.5 ZEC to 6.25 ZEC. Between October 2022 and April 2023, the hashrate of the network remained at an average of 10 GH/s, an increase compared to its historical values, which was probably a consequence of the halving. However, over the past two months the hashrate has dropped to the current rate of 8.16 GH/s.

The Zcash hashrate has increased progressively since 2018. The arrival of the new Bitmain miners could bring about changes in the mining of this network, which was more profitable when the model prior to the Z15 Pro was launched, as reported by CriptoNoticias. However, the price of Zcash (ZEC) has fallen as low as $31.45 per unit, according to CoinMarketCap, $60 less than its price a year ago.
